Assignment argh!!!!!!!

Has today’s youth become lazier with language? I put forward this question after I found out that a student in the UK handed in an exam written completely in text language. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/2197173.stm) Today’s youth are exposed to many things that hinder there learning such as TV, video games and even the internet. (http://www.boston.com/news/science/articles/2006/07/25/study_distractions_impede_learning/ ) in Boston this study was completed showing us that distraction is the number 1 reason we don’t retain as much information as we would like. This in turn diminishes our understanding of the English language. Today’s youth are constantly told what to use what to say and this drives them to resort to using abbreviated form of our language. This language is also related to that of AOL chartroom speech used universally over the world of internet chat rooms. This form of language is an abomination to the English language my reason for this is today’s youth is becoming increasingly lazy. The modern day lifestyle is one of great stress and this has caused our youth to start using abbreviations in everyday life as well as talking on the internet.
Many of these can be found at (http://a1r.mobi/me/Text_A_Z.html) this website can be used to find the abbreviations for many phrases for example ROTFL: Rolling on the floor laughing. This is commonly a used phrase through out the playground of to day’s schools. Students between the ages of 13 and 17 are becoming increasingly prominent in the use of text language. I conducted interviews with students at Aquinas College asking them there feelings on text speak. Many of them are aware that this type of language is developing into a common thing. And almost ¾ of them use text speak in every day life most common of these terms is LOL: laugh out loud. Other thing that was brought to my attention is where they learned about this type of language. The internets chat tools such as MSN Messenger (http://im.live.com/messenger/im/home/?source=MSNTDLINK) which encourages the use of this language by inducing emocon’s (emotional icons.) these enhance the viewers chat by showing face with emotions and assorted other animations. The use of the AOL chartroom language in MSN messenger shows us today’s youth just doesn’t have the time to type a full sentence. For instance using the website (http://www.transl8it.com/cgi-win/index.pl) I can show you a standard conversation. How R u? Not bad. U doin much. not rly playig WOW. lol! This is translated to How are you? Not bad. You doing much. Not really playing World of Warcraft. Laugh out loud! This shows us the extent of briefing the words go through before they even are said by the speaker. This translator can also be used by parents to decipher text messages of the children if they can figure out how to use the internet. On the other hand it’s telling us that we need help understanding our own language. Both text and the English language are becoming increasingly difficult for everyone to understand with our standards on education falling.
Many of today’s kids have a hard time spelling and therefore revert to the language of text to compensate for there lack of spelling skills. In an article by the BBC news network (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2814235.stm) it is shown that text is becoming easier to understand than the English language for the students of today. The student involved processed to write out an exam in text and he teacher was stunned at what had happened. And example of this is "My smmr hols wr CWOT. B4, we used 2go2 NY 2C my bro, his GF & thr 3 :- kids FTF. ILNY, it's a gr8 plc." (In translation: "My summer holidays were a complete waste of time. Before, we used to go to New York to see my brother, his girlfriend and their three screaming kids face to face. I love New York. It's a great place.") This is an extraction of part of her exam and it shows you how we are worlds apart in the respect of language. The average person would look at this and ask what is this? While an average teenager would look at ait and go "you went to New York cool, I wish I could do something like that form holidays."
Even the church is trying to cash in on this idea of text speak. (http://www.biblesociety.com.au/smsbible/) This website uses the text language to spread the message of the Lord. Though not supported by the Church of Rome it still holds valid points in sharing the message of good will through a modern form of communication.

Net Safety: I can see you

Watching some one from the otherside of glasss can be fun at time but also a tad bit creepy. this unfortuantly seems to be the case in todays society. cameras are everywhere from phone to bolts and they have even developed them same enough to fit inside the eye of a needdle. We need to as human beings respect the right of privicy and solitude. The fun times shall role as perverts gather in chat rooms waiting for that young child to wander too far into there comfort zone. pretending to be the a class mate or a child at there school they take advantge of the weaknesses we all hold so close. trust is to easy to gain with most young people offer them the prevobial candy and they will follow you just about everywhere you want to go. telling them things that would make a hardcore porn star sick to the bone. perverts are the lowest of the low not able to function properly with the society of the real world they turned to the internet as a resource for finding there next victims long are the days of sitting in cars out side of schools (even though that is still relativly common in this day and age) the average age of these creepy indivual varys between normally there late 20's to 90's which leaves you wodering how did old people learn to use the web so well? your answer to that is the probaly dont they are in the miniorty once majorty of thoughs who used to hang out side of schools not becuase it was trendy but to prey on unsuspecting girls and boy stupid enough to get in the car with the "nice man" who offers them sunshine and rainbows and candy. the younger ones how everneed to be more consered with the net checker and internet providers who like to see who is on what and is under whos name. many of the sites young peope vist are not protected to the fullest they can be pssibly because of liablity. if someone got through the fire walls and net checks and managed to get a meeting with one of these kids the websites conviners wold have a lot to answer for. this is why the disclamier was invented i guess to insure people would be sensable enough to use discripency when dealing with people over th internet. further more the way poeple seem to believe who these people are just down right stupid even (note i dont mean that for everyone its true that a certain number of these people are very proffesional in the way they deal with kids) (another note i dont mean proffesional as child care type but as a perdetor for a living type.) any way i think this rant on things like perverts, cyber raping and creepy old competer dislekisk men has to come to a close all i have to say is keep your eys on the prize and pray to god its your friend your talking to and not a guy sitting in his underwear playing with himself (note yet agian this might be your friend if so run)

3D worlds: you can still get lost?

i am here to tlak to you about the worlds of the 3D lands known as chat rooms. the fun we had wandering the plains of cyberspace with someone we wished to look like or who we thought was cool. the reasons behind these sites is for toughts seeking friends selldom have to leave thier houses let alone there rooms to make contact with the outside world. as much as i bad thing or anti-social thing i have made this out to be i would be lieing if i dont use it myself. IMVU messenger is one of my site that i reguarly vist not just for tasks but to reach out and mewet people of all creeds and cultures. i have talk to poeple on the otherside of the world and i have talked to people that i was sitting next to. everyone branches out and connects with someone they probably never even knew exested how fun would it be to be to find some who shares the same views on a cartoon series you love and who also enjoy wrestling. these are just examples of things that people like many have in common with each other. each to there own as i say everyone likes to pretend to be someone else every now and then and if you find that creepy you should. Not everyones ready to except everyoe for who they are and this is why the virtual avatar comes in handy. becoming who you want to be can be achieved through the magic of non verbal contact through a screen and about 10 million metres of cables. oh the joy of being unknown to strangers while at the same time exposing your soul only here can we lie to people and tell the truth at the same time. the world of cyber space is twisted intrecated with different opions and views on everything ad in 3D worlds you can lose yourself to the reality of virtual reality. In all 3D world paint a picture of of indivuals whating to do things they could only dream of there alter ego so to speak lock away for evr in a box we call a computer.

the end is nigh

the end of this course is near and the exam is all bout on us it is an ominous time for all involved. This is one of thoughts times that you need a helping hand but it is not all ways there. it come down to just you and a piece of paper or in this case a computer in the end. I have over come the fear of typing what i want to say and for that i am great full. any ways it is just one more thing away form the big exam oh god oh god argh. this is the end last thing i will ever write in this class but i will have to say this i though that all of the work cover helped me hugely. Summarizing in total i found it most life altering in the way it is showing. the reasons for me taking this course in the first place where to fill in time but, i have come to reliase that there was more than meets the eye to it all. i learned may a thing everything from the worlds of 3D chat rooms to the joys of writing blogs agian. This course has made me think of things such as the future and what is going to be possible if we keep going the way we are going. while things like andorids become real? will life become one big game? and will bruce willis grow hair agian? the movie we have watched may have made most tierd and bored but they enlightened me in the way of finding something to relate with from past to present. views of the past on what todays world would be like fall short on what many think. there is no flying cars or virtual game worlds for all but instead a gathering of indivauls that have the right to say what the want to say with the magic of the internet. may of you may scoff at my use of these points but i really couldn't care. because i asnt the most dilligent student doesnt mean my opion isnt as vaild as the next persons. it is i hope as important as the next persons and the one before me giving everyone a voice is what the new communications is about expanding your friends and reducing the amount of strangers in the world. networking is key to life now. everything is important and nothing is worthless. Spell is no more and so is gammer, both of which died at the birth of the chat room. time saying ways of speaking where invent abbreviations such as lol or brb both of which are commonly uused in todays society by young people wether it be on the internet of in person. Nothing can feel worse then letting todays youth down with the language that has so well shaped society. Dumbing things down wont make it better nothing will, nothing except the hard work of youths whating to learn having a thirst for knowledge just as i have. To summerize i would like to qoute the spartans "take everything from them and leave them nothing!" exactlly what we should do with knowledge take it all in and leave nothing behind.

In philosophy, ontology (from the Greek ὄν, genitive ὄντος: of being (part. of εἶναι: to be) and -λογία: science, study, theory) is the study of being or existence. It seeks to describe or posit the basic categories and relationships of being or existence to define entities and types of entities within its framework. Ontology can be said to study conceptions of reality.

Some philosophers, notably of the Platonic school, contend that all nouns refer to entities. Other philosophers contend that some nouns do not name entities but provide a kind of shorthand way of referring to a collection (of either objects or events). In this latter view, mind, instead of referring to an entity, refers to a collection of mental events experienced by a person; society refers to a collection of persons with some shared characteristics, and geometry refers to a collection of a specific kind of intellectual activity.
Any ontology must give an account of which words refer to entities, which do not, why, and what categories result. When one applies this process to nouns such as electrons, energy, contract, happiness, time, truth, causality, and God, ontology becomes fundamental to many branches of philosophy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontology

The use of 555 in cinema stems from an earlier derivation than supposed phone company promotions in the 1970's - having been used in many films from 1930s, or earlier, onwards. One unconfirmed explanation, which may or may not be an urban myth, relates to a supposed early branding deal between MGM and the cigarette company 555 over the use of the digits in movie telephone numbers: Reason why 555 numbers are used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/555_phone_numbers

12 monkeys; is it possible?

It was based on a new wave french film about the end of humanity as we know it but it raises question such as if its possible?
La Jetee's script can be found here http://www.godamongdirectors.com/scripts/lajette.shtml
The original movie La Jetee may only be 3o or so minutes long it is profound in it own way. Using only black and white film it features a number of stills to maximize the effects it has on people forcing you to become involved with in it.La Jetee is only so long but the fabulous director Terry Gillam, saw a movie that inspired him to create the film 12 monkeys. Nothing like this had been tackled before with both films talking of post apocalyptic world where we have become endangered ourself. i loved the way they captured the fear of possibility in its purest form. Nothing seems to out of their reach when they tackle the issues of a reality that may not even be real. The mind is only a fragile instrument and not only is it stretched to it limits it is torn into pieces. in the end only the true lie is the one we live. For nothing is common everything is different and only happens once within time.

Introduction to this

The full works.
What to say it is only the beginning of this course and is is the first time I can say my ideas on the course. I so far haven't had the chance to voice my ideas on the teaching of this class. I am really finding It quite interesting. Well this may only be the first blog and be quite small but it is the start of something much bigger than itself. so with out further to do heres the end. Or Maybe not. what else could i say that wont be explained in the future of these posts. I have to complete at least one a week. Wow hard *Sarcastic stare* this doesn't worry me but the remained of the course outline seems to be a bit difficult. I will how ever work through it to get the desired result of my money that I payed to Griffith to get my Bach of Art. Goodie! well any way till the next time this is the fiend signing off bye bye :p
